Introducing Mercy Mentors
We are proud to officially launch our new Mercy Mentors Program, an initiative that connects current students with past students and mentors from various industries and careers within the Toowoomba and the St Saviour’s College community.
The Mercy Mentors Program came about through a desire to strengthen ties with past pupils and was launched in May.
“St Saviour’s has a long and proud history in educating young women in Toowoomba and so many people that you speak with in the community have a connection with St Saviour’s,” St Saviour’s College Career Development Practitioner Louise Delahunty said.
“Our desire was to give opportunities for these women to be able to share their wisdom with our students.”
At the launch event eight past pupils from 1993 to 2016 donated their time and wisdom to St Saviour’s College students through small group mentoring sessions and shared their stories on assembly.
2004 St Saviour’s College graduate, Dr Amy O’Sullivan, who recently completed her studies to become an anaesthetist, was one of the Mercy Mentors who attended the launch event.
“It was exciting to come back and meet the current students at St Saviour’s College and share my career pathway to medicine with them,” Dr Amy O’Sullivan said.
“The current students were all very insightful for their age.”
Pharmacist Paige Skinner also attended the Mercy Mentors launch event.
“Being a teenager is hard and strong female mentors are really important,” Ms Skinner said.
“Being part of Mercy Mentors is a great way to give advice to current students and chat to the girls about their future career aspirations.”
We hope to expand our Mercy Mentors Program with further events and mentoring opportunities for past pupils and current students.
“In the future we would love people coming in to regularly connect with other past students, current students and to share with small and large groups, facilitate mock interviews and of course continue to be involved in the special events that we run at the College,” Mrs Delahunty said.
“We envision our students graduating as confident, self-aware and connected individuals with a sense of place and purpose and we see mentoring as a big part of that. Our current students have an impressive legacy to be proud of.”
